Will This Scanner Read ABS/SRS and Perform the Service Reset on My Car?

The short answer: buy only after confirming the exact scanner edition supports your vehicle, the required control module, and the specific operation. A vehicle-brand logo or an ABS/SRS label is too broad to settle a service-reset purchase. LAUNCH's CRP 919 Max manual says available service functions and active tests vary by manufacturer, year, and model.

This guide helps you turn a shopping claim into a compatibility question. It is based on manufacturer documentation and our buying checklist; we have not tested these scanners on your vehicle.

ABS/SRS diagnostics and service functions are different checks

ABS means anti-lock braking system; SRS means supplemental restraint system. Autel's AL619 manual, section 6, describes its ABS/SRS diagnostic function as retrieving and clearing trouble codes. That description does not establish support for an ABS bleed procedure, electronic parking brake service, or a calibration.

Match the claimed capability to your job
CapabilityWhat to ask before buying
Basic OBD-II code readingDoes it provide the engine/emissions information I need? Check ABS and airbag access separately.
Enhanced ABS/SRS diagnosticsCan it access my ABS or restraint module, read its codes, and show the data I need?
Service reset or relearnDoes it support my exact maintenance operation, such as battery registration or parking brake service mode?
Bidirectional / active testCan it command the specific component or run the specific test required by my repair procedure?
Coding or programmingWhat exact operation is supported? Request separate confirmation for a replacement-module job.

LAUNCH describes actuation tests as commands sent to a vehicle's control unit. Treat reading a fault, clearing it, and commanding a component as separate requirements. For a broader starting point, read OBD-II code reader vs. scan tool.

A six-step compatibility check before checkout

  1. Identify the vehicle. Record model year, make, model, engine, transmission, and original sales market. Have the VIN available when contacting the manufacturer's support team.
  2. Name the job precisely. Write “read ABS codes” or “run the automated ABS bleed procedure,” rather than “works with brakes.” Use the procedure name in the vehicle's service information.
  3. Identify the scanner edition. Record the full model name, part number, seller, and regional edition. Do not use an answer about a similarly named model as confirmation for the one in your cart.
  4. Check current coverage information. Use the manufacturer's coverage tool or support channel for that edition. Look for the vehicle, module, and function together. LAUNCH documents a Testable Models lookup in the CRP 919 Max manual; a model-level entry is only a starting point for your function-specific question.
  5. Resolve conditions in writing. Ask which software version, connector, adapter, account, online connection, or paid service is necessary. Save the response with the exact product listing.
  6. Check the return terms. Ask how an unsupported promised function is handled after activation or registration. Choose a seller whose written terms let you resolve a coverage mismatch.

A message you can send to support

I'm considering [full scanner model and part number] from [seller] for a [year, make, model, engine, transmission, and market]. Can this exact edition access [module] and perform [specific function]? Which software version, adapters, gateway accounts, and subscriptions are required? Please confirm any limitations and the coverage entry or menu path. I can provide the VIN directly if needed.

Keep a checklist for each car and task if the scanner will serve a household or workshop. Our recommendation is to treat an unanswered required function as unconfirmed coverage when deciding whether to buy.

Check update renewals and gateway access separately

“Free updates” needs a time period and an explanation of what remains usable afterward. Autel's subscription explanation distinguishes retained downloaded software from functions that need server access. Those Autel terms are not a promise about another manufacturer's scanner.

Secure gateway access is another check. Autel's AutoAuth explanation describes authenticated access to secured vehicle functions. Check the AutoAuth service and the scanner manufacturer's current requirements for your tool and vehicle, rather than assuming an update package includes gateway access.

  • How long are updates included, and when does the included period begin?
  • What is the current renewal quote for this edition and region?
  • Which downloaded features remain usable without renewal?
  • Which needed features require an active tool subscription, a separate account, or internet access?
  • Are required cables and adapters included? Are there activation or transfer restrictions?

For example, the LAUNCH CRP 919 Max manufacturer page lists gateway access via AutoAuth and notes an adapter requirement for DoIP. This illustrates why hardware and access requirements deserve separate questions; it does not establish the requirements of the CRP919X editions in our catalog.

Compare a three-year budget: purchase price + required adapters + software renewals you expect to need + gateway/service fees. Use current written quotes and count overlapping fees once.

Common compatibility questions

Does “all systems” mean every service reset is supported?

Use it as a prompt for further checks. Request the coverage entry for the specific operation on your vehicle before making it a purchase requirement.

Can a scanner that reads ABS codes also bleed the ABS system?

Reading codes alone does not establish bleed-function support. Ask about the automated bleed operation by name and verify it against your vehicle's service procedure.

Does a trouble code tell me which part to buy?

No. LAUNCH's manual cautions against replacing a part solely from a code definition. Follow the vehicle's diagnostic procedure before ordering replacement parts.

Sources and scope

Manufacturer manuals, product documentation, and the AutoAuth service information linked above were checked October 2, 2026. The CRP 919 Max and AL619 documents explain diagnostic concepts; they do not verify coverage for the linked catalog products. Confirm current terms and vehicle-specific support before purchase.

This is a buying guide. For ABS/SRS work or active tests, use the vehicle service information and scanner instructions, and seek qualified help if you cannot carry out the required procedure safely.
